چکیده

be transferred and processed increases proportionally to the number of packets measured. High packet rates elevate the resource consumption and with this the costs for the measurement process. Since measurement costs should be only a small fraction of the service provisioning costs itself, there is a strong incentive for limiting the needed measurement resources and lowering the associated costs. Sampling provides adequate techniques for cost reduction by reducing the number of measured packets. Nevertheless, the achievable estimation accuracy for random sampling is limited by the applied sample size. With random sampling a higher accuracy can only be achieved if more packets are sampled, and with this higher costs emerge. In this paper we show how the estimation accuracy can be improved without increasing the sample size by using stratified sampling techniques. We investigated different stratification strategies with regard to the attainable reduction of the amount of sampled packets. It is shown that the sample size can be significantly reduced if packets are stratified in accordance their sizes. The influence of the setting of the stratification boundaries to the stratification gain is investigated. Furthermore, adaptive schemes with a dynamic adjustment of the stratification boundaries are compared to schemes with fixed boundaries.

Poster 04 – Evaluation of Building Blocks for Passive One-way-delay Measurements

Service Level Agreements (SLAs) specify the Quality of Services (QoS) negotiated between provider and customer. QoS Measurements provide a suitable way to proof the fulfillment of the given guarantees. During service usage the traffic of interest is already present in the network. This traffic can be utilized for passive (non-intrusive) measurement methods avoiding the disadvantages of sending ...

Cultural Issues in Understanding Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder: Nature, Appraisals, and Control Strategies of Unwanted Intrusive Thoughts in Iranian Nonclinical Population

Objective: Recent developments in cognitive models of obsessive-compulsive disorder posits that nearly everyone experiences unwanted intrusive thoughts, images, and impulses from time to time. The intrusions are not particularly a problematic issue; it is more probably an interpretation or attempts to control in maladaptive or unrealistic ways. So, the present article aimed to assess the nature...

Simulation and Control of an Aromatic Distillation Column

In general, the objective of distillation control is to maintain the desired products quality. In this paper, the performances of different one point control strategies for an aromatic distillation column have been compared through dynamic simulation. These methods are: a) Composition control using measured composition directly. This method sufferes from large sampling delay of measuring de...

Overview on VoIP: Subjective and Objective Measurement Methods

In this paper we have carried out an accurate overview on Voice over IP QoS evaluation techniques. We have described in a detailed way the most important measurement methods that are subdivided in subjective and objective methods. Subjective measurements (e.g. Mean Opinion Score MOS) are the benchmark for objective methods, but they are slow, time consuming and expensive. Objective measurements...
